Categories & Channels
Design the server channel structure and per-role channel access.
Add Categories & Channels after Roles & Permissions. This connection supplies the roles used in each channel's permission override table.
Start with a template
Open Templates and choose Community, Gaming, Dev / Tech, or Minimal. Each template adds a ready-made category and channel structure. Select Build from scratch to begin empty.
You can also import a JSON file containing either a category array or an object with a categories array. The export control downloads the current categories and channels as JSON.
Templates and imports replace the structure
Applying a template or importing JSON replaces the current category and channel structure. Export the current setup first if you may need it again.
Edit categories and channels
Open Edit to manage the structure:
- Select Add category to create a category, then edit its name.
- Select Add channel within a category, then edit the channel name.
- Drag categories or channels by their handles to reorder them.
- Select a trash icon to delete a category or channel.
- Select a channel's settings icon to change its type and permissions.
Each channel can use one of five types:
| Type | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Text | Conversation and messages |
| Voice | Voice rooms |
| Forum | Topic-based posts and replies |
| Announcement | Server updates and published announcements |
| Stage | Speaker-and-audience voice events |
Set channel access
Two quick flags apply an override to @everyone:
- Private denies View Channel.
- Read-only denies Send Messages.
For detailed access, use the Role Permissions table. Each click cycles a permission through:
- Inherit: use the role's server-wide permission.
- Allow: grant the permission in this channel.
- Deny: block the permission in this channel.
Text, forum, and announcement channels provide overrides for View Channel, Send Messages, Read History, Manage Messages, Attach Files, and Add Reactions. Voice and stage channels provide View Channel, Connect, Speak, Mute Members, and Move Members.
Where roles come from
The table shows @everyone plus roles from the connected Roles & Permissions node. Add or update roles there when a role is missing.
